That is why the styling survives the paste. A font must exist on the reader's device, while a Unicode character travels inside the text itself, so a name copied here looks the same to everyone who sees your posts.

Keeping the handle plain solves it, because the handle is the half people type. Accounts that earn most of their traffic through search have more to lose here than accounts that grow through the timeline.

Why a stylish name breaks on X
A box (โ) means the reader's device has no glyph for that character. The text is still valid, and bold, monospace, outline and small caps render on virtually every device in use. Rarer sets break more often, and they break for your readers rather than for you.
Two other failures have different causes. A name X refuses to save has usually hit the 50-character limit. A name that pastes as plain letters was copied as an image rather than as text โ the characters have to come from real text, which is what the buttons above give you.
