What is a Telegram stylish name?

A Telegram stylish name is your first and last name rewritten with Unicode characters. Typing Aisha returns ᗩIᔕᕼᗩ or 𝔸𝕚𝕤𝕙𝕒. Telegram installs nothing to show them — they are separate textual characters that look like a font.

That is why the styling survives the paste. A font must be installed on the reader's device, while a Unicode character travels inside the text itself, so a name copied here renders the same on a phone, on the desktop app and in the web client.

02 Fields

Where fancy text works on Telegram — and where it does not

The name fields, bio and channel titles accept Unicode; the username never does. Telegram restricts usernames to the letters a–z, the digits 0–9 and underscores, with a minimum of 5 characters, so a stylish username is rejected no matter which generator produced it.

03 Channels

Styled names for channels and groups

A channel or group title is a separate field from your personal name, and it accepts the same characters. That is why decorated titles are common in large channels while the public @link beside them stays plain.

The two behave differently in search. A channel's public link follows the username rule, so it carries the words people actually type, while the title carries the styling. Splitting the job that way keeps a channel findable without giving up the look.

04 Counting

Why this page does not quote a name limit

Telegram publishes a rule for usernames but no length for the name fields. Pages that quote a number for them are repeating each other rather than the documentation, so this one shows the count of what you have built and leaves it at that.

The counter above uses the stricter of the two ways a field can count, because a styled letter can cost one unit or two depending on the client. A name it reports as short is short under either rule.

05 Troubleshooting

Why a stylish name breaks on Telegram

A box (☐) means the reader's device has no glyph for that character. The text is still valid, and bold, monospace, outline and small caps render across the Android, iOS, desktop and web clients. Rarer sets break on one client while working on another, which is why a name can look right to you and wrong to a contact.

Two other failures have different causes. A name the app refuses to save has hit a field rule rather than a character problem, and the username is the field that rejects styled text by design. A name that pastes as plain letters was copied as an image instead of text.

Channel titles have no published limit either, so the whole generator is the place to experiment.
